Wool India Export

The India wool and Wool Textile Export Promotion Association (WWEPC) reported that the export volume of wool fell 1 billion 240 million 10 thousand rupees for the first time in four years from April 2007 to February 2008, accounting for 6.84% of the total export volume of wool textiles in the same period.

The appreciation of the rupee is considered to be the main reason for the decline in exports of wool and wool products.

The export of wool and wool blended textiles and garments and garments decreased to 16 billion 880 million 40 thousand rupees in the same period, and the export volume was 18 billion 120 million 50 thousand rupees in the same period last year.

Mr. Gupta, chairman of the India wool and Wool Textile Export Promotion Association, said that the rupee's appreciation of the US dollar has hurt the country's low import intensive and price sensitive wool industry.

The appreciation of the rupees has weakened the competitiveness of the wool industry and led to a decline in exports.

The sharp rise in the India rupee's exchange rate against the US dollar has become one of the main concerns of exporters, especially small business units.

Mr. Gupta added that although the rupee appreciation was the main oil that led to a decline in wool exports, other crucial factors also played a role.

The high consumption tax rate and low incentive rate of waste wool and specialized textile and garment machinery, such as tariff rebate and customs duty certificate, rigid labor policy, higher pport costs, power supply and electricity costs, and the shortage of technical and semi skilled labor have also become the cause of the decline in wool export earnings.

Mr. Gupta also revealed that the government has begun to pay attention to and solve these problems, and some effective measures have been decided.

A warehouse will be built in Moscow. In this warehouse, the members of the promotion association can store their products and supply products to consumers in the shortest time.

In addition, the association has identified an ambitious export promotion plan for the fiscal year 2008-09, which will send trade missions to Moscow, Ala Mutu, Tashkent, Australia and New Zealand.

The association will also participate in the trend dress exhibition held in Albert, Canada. In India, Osaka, the India fashion show, the Moda costumes exhibition in Britain and other major exhibitions around the world will be promoted.
