South African Wool Exports To China And India Rise

The export statistics of Cape wool 2007-08 season show that the export of wool to China and India has increased steadily compared with the previous year.

China is still the largest importer of wool in South Africa. During the 2007-08 season, China's imports of non skimmed wool from South Africa increased by 27% to 14 million kg over the same period last year.

The total imports amounted to 489 million Rand.

The export of non skim wool to India increased by 126% over the same period last year, reaching 3 million 700 thousand kg.

India is the fifth largest importer of wool in South Africa.

Italy is the second largest importer of wool in South Africa. Italy has reduced imports of non skimmed wool and washed wool. Imports of non skimmed wool fell by 27% compared to the same period, while imports of washed wool fell by 24%, while the import of Italy's wool from South Africa increased significantly.

The export of non skimmed wool to Czech, the third largest importer, increased by 5%, and the export of wool tops increased by 89%. Germany is the fourth largest importer of South African wool, while the export of non skim wool to Germany has decreased by 2%, while the export of wool tops has fallen by 26%, and the export of washed wool has decreased by 4%.

In terms of value, China's market share rose to 30% in total FOB value of South African wool, up 2% from last season.

Total exports to India increased by 173% to 176 million Rand, which accounted for 11% of total exports in South Africa.

Exports to other countries in Africa can be largely ignored.

The export of wool to Japan has basically remained unchanged, reaching 63623 kg.

The export of washed wool decreased by 53% to 5586 kg.

The export of washing wool to China's Taiwan area reached 4519 kg.
