In March 7th, American fashion writer William Middleton announced the signing of a contract with a well-known publisher HarperCollins. In 2021, the two sides will work together to publish a biography of the German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

William Middleton has been the chief executive officer of the Paris fashion department, the American fashion magazine "WWD", the chief executive of the American fashion magazine "W".

In 1995, William Middleton met with Karl Lagerfeld when he was working in Paris. After many interviews, they became close friends.

For a long time, William Middleton will take part in the preview of Chanel's quarterly clothing series and high definition series.

In order to know more details, he hopes to cooperate with Chanel Lagerfeld, the creative director of Karl Lagerfeld for more than thirty years, but the two sides have not started any discussion on the matter.

"Even without the help of Chanel, I will do my best to finish this book," he said.

I respect Karl Lagerfeld very much, and his story inspired my enthusiasm for writing.

The public will always have a stereotype of him and think he is very harsh and unkind.

But in fact, he is very gentle and kind-hearted.

After becoming a friend, William Middleton once talked to Karl Lagerfeld about his prejudice against the outside world.

At that time, Karl Lagerfeld replied, "looks harsh and gentle, which is much better than the reverse, isn't it?"

(Better that than the opposite, no?)

Last year, William Middleton put forward an invitation to write biography for Karl Lagerfeld, but at that time, the designer himself was not interested in it.

So, after the death of Karl Lagerfeld, William Middleton immediately organized a three page writing outline and sent it to her agent.

Later, he and HaperCollins vice president and chief editor Sara Nelson discussed this, and the two hit it off.

A week later, they signed the contract.

William Middleton's biography of art collectors Dominique Menil and John de Menil, which was published in March 2018, has been widely praised.

But he decided to write a biography of Karl Lagerfeld in different ways.

He thinks that the detailed, thick and big books are not in tune with the temperament of Karl Lagerfeld.

In his mind, this biography should be mixed with the intense collision between designer's thought and pop culture, like a silhouette of Karl Lagerfeld's wonderful moments in life.

He said that no one has ever been so close to art, film, architecture, design and culture that these are all worthy of deep understanding.

The biography is about 250 pages to 300 pages, including some pictures.

HaperCollins vice president and chief editor, Sara Nelson, said she admired Karl Lagerfeld and appreciated the unique perspective of William Middleton.

Although there are many books about Karl Lagerfeld's life, this book attracts her most.

In February 19th, Karl Lagerfeld died of illness in Paris at the age of 85.
