Do you think this description is accurate?

Y: my original intention of designing clothes is to protect the human body.

This is the beginning of everything, but it actually covers the female body.

This is about sex and protection.

From the beginning of my career, I am not too cold on the title of "fashion designer" because fashion designers sound very insignificant.

What will T: fashion designers remind you of?

Y: when I think of fashion designers, my first reaction is to follow suit.

I need to consider what is the freshest and what will happen if customers will like to buy it.

This is too busy for me.

So, from the beginning, I wanted to keep those clothes away from fashion trends while protecting women's body from men's frivolity and cold wind.

I hope my guests can spend 10 years or more wearing a piece of clothing, so I ask my fabric manufacturer to make me a very solid fabric.

T: you say you want to protect the female body, and your clothes are very hermaphroditic. It's interesting.

Do you think men and women's clothes will be more and more similar?

Y: when I started making clothes in 1977, all I thought about was how to make women wear men's clothes.

From this point of view, designing clothes for women means protecting and guarding the female body.

For me, a woman should concentrate on her work instead of how to make herself cater for other people's preferences. At the same time, she should have a strong look at 42 points.

In essence, this is actually more attractive.

The more she hides her femininity, the more powerful she can be.

A perfectly cut cotton trousers is more moving than a glistening silk gown.

T: thirty years later, are people still not satisfied with their clothes?

Y: it's hard for me to say simply whether fashion is becoming more conservative, but basically fashion always comes back to its inherent habits.

Otherwise, when the next wave comes, people will still feel accustomed to it. Even the most avant-garde designs are classified as a bit of fashion.

I don't want to see that the avant-garde becomes cheap and artificial.

But colleagues, I still believe in the spirit of avant-garde: it must be a voice of anti traditional values.

This is not what young people have in mind.

On the long road of life, I found myself through some struggles.

T: you said in an interview that you hate fashion, but now you look like you still love it.

Have you ever thought of giving up and leaving?

Y: about six years ago, I felt that my whole life was over.

But now, especially in Tokyo, New York and Losangeles, everything is dominated by fast fashion consumption.

Fashion is becoming faster and cheaper, and people begin to waste fashion.

All of a sudden, I found that there was room for me to play.

A small number of people, especially young people, begin to doubt and reflect on the current trend. They may be waiting for some things to come back and something new.

So I said to myself, Yamamoto, you have to continue your work.

Don't change for others. Stick to your attitude and continue with your previous work.
