On January 6th, Calcot of the US cotton supply and Marketing Cooperative in California said on Thursday that cotton production in the world 2011/12 exceeded consumption for the first time in six years.

Jarral Neeper, President and chief executive of Calcot, held the annual cotton conference in Atlanta (Beltwide Cotton Conference). It is expected that global cotton production will exceed "global consumption".

Far beyond the world's cotton production.

Neeper said that the year-end inventory of cotton will increase to 4540 Huambo in the global 2011/12 year and 43 million 400 thousand packages in 2010/11.

Neeper also said that the new cotton futures contract for December could be traded at a wide range of 80-85 cents to $1.05-1.10 per pound in the next six months, which reached 1.025 dollars per pound on Thursday.

Futures contracts will become a major factor affecting the US farmers' decision to sow cotton or soybeans in the spring. Soybean is currently an alternative crop of cotton because it is currently trading below 14 dollars per bushel.
