Summer Skin Fungal Dermatosis

Deputy chief physician Feng Xiaoting

After the arrival of summer, Mr. Chen began to feel that his feet were itchy and the skin of his toes had erythema, and had erosions and exudates. He went to the hospital for examination and was suffering from tinea pedis.

According to Department of Dermatology doctors, like Mr. Chen, people who wear leather shoes and sweat more often and do not do a good job of cleaning work, the incidence of tinea pedis is higher than that of ordinary people.

The culprit that causes tinea pedis is fungi.

It is divided into two categories: epidermis and Trichophyton, and is fond of moist and hot environment.

The latest weather is the most favorite of fungi. At this time, the fungus is growing faster, and the stratum corneum of human foot is thicker. The keratin in the stratum corneum is the "gluttonous feast" of fungi. There is no sebaceous gland in the skin between the feet and toes. In addition, when the weather is hot and humid, the sweat is hard to evaporate after exercise, so that the feet are moist and the fungi will proliferate.

Another major problem with fungi is that they are susceptible to infection, especially from the feet. Many skin diseases such as tinea manus, tinea crinea, tinea corporis and onychomycosis are all caused by tinea pedis (commonly known as "athlete's foot").

Most people think tinea pedis is a minor ailment. Just go to the drugstore to buy some medicine.

In fact, this view is wrong.

Tinea pedis can develop secondary bacterial infection and even cause erysipelas in the lower extremities when symptoms are serious.

Uncle Huang has severe tinea pedis every summer. His feet are peeling and itching. He can relieve himself by rubbing some ointment, but it is always over and over again, and it will be fine in winter.

Doctors in the Department of Dermatology say that the fungus is in a dormant state during cold winter, when the patient mistakenly believes that his tinea pedis has been cured.

In fact, tinea pedis is very stubborn. It is necessary to standardize treatment so as to remove roots.
